Arrive from Adelaide. First steps onto Indian soil for this trip — a few days by the sea before the long journey north begins.

The longest stay of the trip — three weeks of Bengal, written up for the blog a couple of weeks after we leave.

From the Arabian Sea to Gujarat’s old city, in a First AC sleeper with chai arriving at every station.

A week in the old city, then a slow drive north — the countryside doing what train windows never quite manage.
Onward: Car to Udaipur — 6–8 hours across the Rajasthan border
The lake city for five slow days, then an overnight sleeper east — waking as Rajasthan’s pink capital pulls in.

A short stop in the pink city — forts and bazaars squeezed between two good long train rides.

The last week in India: museums, gardens, and one final round of the food we’ll be talking about all winter.
Onward: Flight to Guangzhou — China Southern
The long way home through southern China, carrying a season of stories back across the sea.
